Position Summary

Main job functions

Accountable for the quality and completion of planned preventative maintenance routines, fault diagnosis, breakdown repairs and installation work with industrial mechanical systems.

Assisting the team leader in the completion of administrative and safety tasks relating to engineering maintenance.

Principle Accountabilities

Duties, Responsibilities and Key Tasks

Health and Safety

Work in accordance with safe systems of work, procedures and statutory regulations.

Ensure own knowledge of mechanical regulations and guidelines is kept up to date.

Maintain a good standard of housekeeping and ensure the correct use of PPE for required activities and areas.

Participate in safety inspections and risk assessments for maintenance activities and use of equipment.

Partake in training courses required by the business / statutory bodies to fulfil all duties and key tasks of the role.

Report incidents and incident hazards.

Perform and confirm Isolations and lock offs of dangerous machinery in accordance with site procedures. (LOTO Systems)

Issue Permits to Work, once trained and control activities according to company / legal requirements and procedures.

Constructively participate in safety improvement activities designed to improve the safety performance of the business / department.

Carry out the job requirements in full compliance with the Code of Conduct

Support and demonstrate the \’4 Values\’ and associated \’behaviours\’ in carrying out your duties and responsibilities.

Employees must actively engage in the incident reporting system and highlight any shortcomings in the arrangements for health and safety and report any serious or immediate danger.

Quality

Maintain timely and accurate records of work activities on SAP, job cards, work permits, MS teams and any other methods prescribed.

Actively use CMMS (SAP) system to record time taken/spares used from work orders.

Generate and communicate ideas/suggestions to improve maintenance service and drive continuous improvement.

Actively participate in identifying areas for productivity and process improvements.

Participate in internal/external audits as required in order to improve quality performance against defined targets.

People

Understand the needs and expectations of the customer and your role in achieving the departmental and business objectives.

Clearly understand your role and responsibilities within the shift team and collaborate and cooperate with all team members.

Communicate clearly and professionally provide feedback through supervision.

Demonstrate a willing and flexible approach to work requirements.

Positively contribute to assisting the development of the business.

Support other team members in achieving their tasks.

Ensure good attendance and timekeeping be ready for work in accordance with site rules and business requirements, for example during factory shutdown periods.

Training

Engage in training and development activities provided by the company.

Carry out induction and training of new members of the team.

Provide training for process operators in on-line maintenance activities.

Act as a mentor to apprentice and improve mechanical engineering standards within the team.

Highlight any area in which training and development is required.

Operational Duties

Ensure continuity of maintenance support for manufacturing via effective, documented shift handovers with maintenance and manufacturing colleagues.

Contribute to the achievement of defined KPIs e.g. PPM schedule adherence and equipment availability.

Plan your work load, be organised in the work place, complete the task promptly and know the next task.

Perform planned preventative maintenance activities to meet agreed schedules.

Carry out breakdown repairs to minimise unplanned process downtime and maximise plant availability.

Inspect Mechanical systems, equipment, components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, to ensure compliance to known standards and specifications.

Diagnose faults using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and take appropriate corrective measures.

Carry out installation, modifications and decommissioning tasks as required.

Test mechanical systems, pneumatic and hydraulic equipment, using testing equipment, to ensure the compatibility and safety of system.

Use a variety of tools and equipment such as access and lifting equipment, power tools, measuring and testing equipment and working at height and in confined spaces.

Operate site service equipment such as boiler and compressors.

Operate forklift trucks and mobile platforms if trained and licensed to do so.

Record spare parts usage from engineering stores.

Communicate maintenance issues to users/owners of equipment.

Your profile

Experience Required

A minimum of 2 years experience in a maintenance / industrial environment.

Knowledge Required

Knowledge of a wide range of industrial plant and machinery including mechanical / pneumatic and hydraulic control systems.

Demonstrate understanding of site safety systems, including permit to work procedures, isolation methods and other company policies.

Qualifications / Skills Required

Apprentice trained technician with City and Guilds Level 3 Certificate or equivalent in Mechanical discipline.

Good Verbal and written communication skills.
