Charnwood Borough Council in Leicestershire is an ambitious and dynamic organisation with a strong focus on supporting communities, looking after the environment, and creating a thriving economy.

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated Environmental Health Officer to join our Food and Health & Safety Team. This role will involve a wide range of regulatory functions, balancing proportionate enforcement interventions with providing advice and support to our local businesses.

You will be carrying out food hygiene inspections, service requests, reactive and proactive health and safety enforcement, infectious disease controls, complaint investigations, approved premises inspections and enforcement work. You must be experienced in carrying out food hygiene official controls and the preparation and service of statutory notices and prosecutions.

You must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail and a commitment to providing good customer care. You will also have excellent interpersonal skills and be a great team player. The successful candidate must be able to travel throughout the borough to attend site visits as required by the role. We are an agile organisation working flexibly from home and the office in a hybrid work pattern, so you will need to be self-motivated and be able to work well independently.

Applicants must be appropriately qualified in accordance with the Food Standards Agency Food Law Code of Practice, having a degree in Environmental Health or equivalent as well as a Certificate of Registration of the Environmental Health Registration Board (EHRB). If you are driven and enjoy a varied and challenging workload, we would love to hear from you.

There are many benefits to working with us. The Council offers generous annual leave of between 23 and 28 days (depending on grade and length of service) plus bank holidays and the opportunity to join the local government pension scheme. The essential car user scheme also applies to this post.
