Job Summary

18.75 hours per week with flexible Monday‑Friday scheduling. Join the medical team at Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend, for a supportive and innovative Occupational Therapy Service.

This role offers a wealth of learning and development opportunities such as a Band 6 Development Framework, a tailored training passport, and peer support to consolidate and enhance specialist OT, leadership and management skills.

The post holder will carry an independent caseload of patients and deliver occupational therapy intervention to a high standard, providing evidence‑based, high‑quality interventions and supporting patients’ independence and discharge from hospital.

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist OT assessment, intervention and rehabilitation to patients, ensuring improved functional recovery and prompt discharge.
  • Work closely with the MDT, Principal OT, Discharge Liaison Team, and Local Authorities to ensure effective cross‑boundary and agency working.
  • Deliver evidence‑based, quality intervention using research, audit and quality improvement projects.
  • Supervise and support junior team members and student OT, while maintaining excellent self‑management and efficient caseload administration.
  • Identify meaningful goals, provide assessments, plan interventions and support patients’ independence and discharge from hospital.
  • Prevent avoidable admissions through rehabilitation and efficient discharge planning.

Welsh Skills Desirable

This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. The candidate should have speaking & listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above.

Qualifications & Knowledge

  • Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy and postgraduate training.
  • Relevant postgraduate level training and registered member of the Health Professional Council.
  • Documented evidence of CPD.
  • Desirable: Membership of professional body; postgraduate training in motivational interviewing, goal planning; accreditation in fieldwork education for OT students.

Experience

  • Autonomous caseload management within relevant clinical areas.
  • Understanding of the OT process with emphasis on physical conditions.
  • Supervision of staff.
  • Knowledge of best practice, clinical governance, and relevant policies/procedures (risk management, protection of vulnerable adults, DOLs).
  • Experience of audit, multidisciplinary working, and community service delivery.

  • Work single‑handedly with individuals or groups.
  • Organisational, planning and time‑management skills.
  • Demonstrable clinical reasoning skills and the ability to make effective clinical decisions for complex cases.

  • Effective written and oral communication skills and computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
