Stores Operative

Location: HMP Bristol, 19 Cambridge Rd, Bishopston, Bristol. BS7 8PS
Salary: £28,853.57 per annum
Contract: Full Time, Permanent, 39 hrs per week, Mon to Fri
Holidays: 25 days per year plus Bank Holidays, plus non‑contractual benefits such as Death in Service at 4× salary, private GP consultations, Employee Assistance Programme, financial reward mechanisms and retailer discounts.
Job Overview
As a Stores Operative at HMP Bristol, you work within a Category B Adult Male prison, supporting the Facilities Maintenance Team to keep the facility safe, secure and operational. You will work alongside professionals in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, cleaning and administration to provide a safe environment for prisoners, staff and visitors.
Responsibilities
• Maintain storage facilities and inventory for the prison.
• Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment safely.
• Record and report stock levels, shortages and incidents.
• Collaborate with maintenance and support staff to meet operational goals.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety and security protocols.
Qualifications
- Fork Lift Truck Certificate
- Level 2 qualification in English and Maths
- Full driving licence, preferably with D1
- HGV Licence (optional)
- Up‑to‑date First Aid at Work qualification
- Good Health & Safety knowledge
- Excellent organisational, time‑management and people skills
