Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Vehicle Technician based at Essex Police workshops in Laindon near Basildon. This is a challenging role that requires the successful candidate to have a minimum of 5 years’ experience of working in a vehicle workshop environment and a good understanding of vehicle maintenance, electrical systems, diagnostics and health and safety.
The role involves carrying out the full duties of a Vehicle Technician: service, maintenance and repairs on cars and light commercial vehicles in a safe and efficient manner, performing safety inspections, diagnostic testing and problem‑solving on a wide range of fleet vehicles and Police vehicle equipment, completing documentation (job sheets, service sheets, parts requests, electronic labour input), and modifying all types of fleet vehicles, fitting specialised Police equipment. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential.
Essex Police offer agile working which allows some flexibility in terms of arrangements. Due to the operational nature of this role, it will be workshop‑based within a team. Your priority will be to order vehicles for maintenance and ensure completion to standard and quality, identifying warranty claims for recovery from manufacturers.

- Proven experience in a Motor Vehicle technician role with at least 5 years as a fully qualified technician.
- City & Guilds 2 & 3 in Motor Vehicle Studies or equivalent NVQ level 3 in light vehicle maintenance and repair, or equivalent relevant qualification.
- Hold Senior/Master Technician qualifications or working towards this level.
- Ability to network and build effective relationships.
- Good understanding of Health and Safety in the workplace.
- Working effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

Essex Police offer incremental increases within this salary band, therefore the salary for this position will rise to a maximum of ÂŁ40,890.00.
