We offer fully supported training for the role, along with guidance for career progression within our Orthopaedic Outpatients Department.
No previous experience is necessary, as we provide comprehensive training to help you succeed. We offer a bespoke full induction, support through the care certificate, and mentorship on the wards to help you reach your potential and deliver excellent patient care.
This position is advertised as a Band 3; however, applicants who do not meet the care certificate competencies will initially be employed as Band 2. Applicants with a care certificate accreditation will start at Band 3.
Our Healthcare Support Workers are vital to the trust, playing an integral role in wards and departmental teams. The role can be challenging but rewarding. Our teams are caring, compassionate, and inclusive. We support progression pathways to staff nurse training.
Main duties of the job
- Full-time and part-time hours available.
- Monday to Friday, 8:00 am – 6:00 pm, with no bank holidays or weekends. Minimum hours are 19 per week.
- Flexible shift patterns.
- Work as an effective team member under supervision of a registered healthcare professional, providing dignified, compassionate, and safe care, maintaining high standards of documentation.
- Duties will vary and may include working with patients of all ages, from children to older adults. Duties should only be undertaken after appropriate training or induction, in line with trust policies.
As part of the selection process, you will complete a numeracy and literacy assessment alongside an interview.

Note: The Orthopaedic Outpatients Department will move to Poole Hospital in January 2026. Further information is available below.
