Building a sustainable tomorrow

We are seeking an experienced Temporary Works Coordinator to join us at Devonport Royal Dockyard, Plymouth where we are the preferred contractor to carry out heavy civil engineering construction in and around the Royal Navy dockyard. Joining the design / engineering team, you will be responsible for co-ordinating all aspects of Temporary Works on one of the major projects ongoing in the dockyard.

Due to the nature of work at Devonport, BPSS/SC level of security clearance is required, only candidates, who are holding NATO member passports and have lived in the UK for more than 3 years can be considered.

Your mission

As a Temporary Works Coordinator, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Co-ordination of Temporary Works between our site teams and designers
  • Review of TW design briefs prepared by site teams to ensure they are suitable for issue to the project’s Temporary Works Design teams and management of that submission process
  • Management of Temporary Works through the full design preparation and checking processes in accordance with appropriate procedures and client requirements
  • Manage Temporary Works designs through their full life-cycle to client approval, implementation, use and dismantling
  • Liaise with different design houses simultaneously
  • Ensure the implementation of these Temporary Works on site is in accordance with the approved and checked design details
  • Site inspections and issue of TW Permits
  • Demonstrate a personal commitment to the project’s Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality policies and management system requirements and expectations
  • Develop and maintain an awareness of SHE hazards and associated risks and demonstrate a commitment to eliminate or minimise those risks
  • Understand and effectively undertake SHE accountabilities
  • Manage and coordinate Temporary Works Supervisors
  • Comply with commercial processes
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements and all relevant Joint Venture policies and processes
  • Provide practical support and mentoring to less experienced members of the temporary works team

Who are we looking for?

  • Degree qualification in civil engineering or Building equivalent is desirable – one or more of: BSc, BA, BEng, MEng, Eng, Tech, MICE, TIStructE, LCIBSE, LCIBSEEng Tech, Completion of Higher Apprenticeship
  • Must have CITB Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) qualification
  • We will consider personnel working towards Chartership/Incorporation with IStructE, ICE, CIOB,or other appropriate professional body
  • Ideally experience of overseeing a broad range of different Temporary Works schemes, preferably as a TWC or TWS
  • Experience in design and/or engineering management
  • Working knowledge of Temporary Works management procedures
  • Experience in the delivery of major infrastructure projects
  • Awareness of commercial processes
  • Experience of structural steel building buildings
