If you are in your second or third year of study at university studying engineering, engineering science, mathematics, statistics or related qualifications then we want you to apply for an internship with Stantec. Scope of work
This internship with the Christchurch Civil Water Team offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in the design and construction of three water infrastructure projects while working alongside a supportive and motivated team.
Typical tasks for these projects could include:
- Utilize industry-standard software such as AutoCAD and Civil 3D to create and modify engineering plans in a digital format.
- Contribute to the preparation of reports and other essential engineering documentation.
- Participate in meetings and discussions with clients and contractors to facilitate effective project coordination.
- Conduct site visits to observe and monitor construction activities, providing valuable insights for ongoing design projects.
- Assist in ensuring quality assurance during the construction phase of water infrastructure projects.
- Gain exposure to project management
Additionally, you may have opportunities to support other disciplines within the Stantec Water Team, including dams and dam safety, structural, geotechnical, electrical, and mechanical engineering. Collaboration across disciplines is encouraged on various projects, providing a well-rounded learning experience.
This role will allow you to develop further understanding of the water engineering sector and the role of an engineering consultant. It offers valuable exposure to real-world projects, enabling you to enhance your technical skills and gain insight into the multifaceted nature of the water industry.

To be eligible to apply you must:
- Be in your second or third year of study
- Currently studying a Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Hons) or Bachelor or Engineering Technology or Civil Engineering Diploma or Mathematics, Statistics and modelling.
- Preferably have a full clean current driving licence
- Able to commence work from 24th November 2025 to 13th February 2026
