We play a crucial role in advancing nuclear new build, ensuring the UK\’s energy security and achieving net-zero carbon emissions. Great British Energy – Nuclear focuses on fostering innovation, facilitating investment, and coordinating efforts across the nuclear industry to build a resilient and sustainable energy future.

GBEN are seeking an Export Control Manager to lead and manage our export control function, ensuring compliance with UK, EU, US, and international laws. You\’ll develop robust systems, policies, and training to ensure the business fully understands and complies with export/import legislation, licensing, and controls. This role is essential in enabling GBN to navigate complex trade compliance requirements, particularly in the nuclear sector.

Location: Warrington (Hybrid working)

Accountabilities & Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement end-to-end export control processes and governance
  • Develop and deliver training and awareness across the business
  • Monitor, maintain, and update export/import licences (SPIRE experience essential)
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies (e.g., ECJU), manage audits and compliance risk assessments
  • Assess procurement/contracts for compliance with export control obligations
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting to authorities
  • Track legislative updates and implement necessary changes
  • Investigate and resolve compliance breaches

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:

  • 5+ years\’ experience in export controls within a regulated industry
  • In-depth knowledge of UK, EU, US (ITAR/EAR) and other relevant export laws
  • Experienced in licensing processes (OGELs/SIELs/F680) and use of SPIRE system
  • Strong communicator, able to engage with senior stakeholders
  • Proven ability to develop and implement compliance frameworks
  • Tariff classification, IATA, IMDG, and ADR knowledge desirable

Qualifications:

  • ECO export licence training
  • Membership of MCIEx or relevant professional body
  • Detailed understanding of HMRC regulations
