Job summary:
A diverse and varied role which encompasses supporting the in-house Legal Counsel function within Praxis Group in all aspects of advising on company law, trust law, commercial contracts, employment law, regulatory compliance, company secretarial duties and relevant international developments. The successful candidate will need to assist with various internal legal projects, as well as drafting and reviewing documents to facilitate client transactions. The opportunity also exists to become involved in the management of any client litigation. The Legal Manager will report to the Head of Legal but will work with the wider Legal Counsel team.
Job accountabilities:
- Drafting legal documents to facilitate client transactions such as trust distributions, termination of trusts, appointment/exclusion of beneficiaries and loans.
- Drafting and updating precedent documents to be used primarily by the Administration team e.g. template minutes, resolutions and other documents as required.
- Maintain a good knowledge of legal and tax practices, primarily for Guernsey and England.
- Maintenance of central inbox .
- Maintenance of IHLC workstream through Teams.
- Assisting with preparation of quarterly legal updates for board reporting.
- Assisting with the review and updating of policies & procedures.
- Reviewing and preparing updates on legal issues, such as case reports.
- Preparing and presenting regular training sessions for the Administration team on areas of interest.
- Reviewing contracts from outside agencies e.g. for IT projects.
- Undertaking such other duties as may be required from time to time.
- Promoting and developing the IHLC service as we move towards the Centre of Excellence model, and broaden our offering to other offices in the Praxis group.
Professional Qualifications and Experience
- Law degree or equivalent legal qualification
- Ideally will have post qualification experience within a legal environment or within a legal in house role within a financial services business, although we will consider candidates with less than 3 years PQE
