We are actively recruiting for future posts in 2026. Please note if you are successful through the process, you will be placed on one of our 2026 intakes.

12‑hour rotating shifts: 4 shifts on, 2 days, 2 nights, 4 shift off. The control room operates 24/7, 365 days a year.

Serving an estimated population of nearly 600,000 people, Warwickshire Police receive over 90,000 emergency calls per year, in addition to many more non‑emergency calls for service. Your role will help build trust and safety across Warwickshire’s diverse communities.

Responsibilities

  • Handle emergency and non‑emergency calls, gathering details such as stolen vehicle, armed robbery, etc.
  • Provide advice and support, resolving calls without dispatching officers when appropriate.
  • Remain calm under pressure, gather information quickly, and offer a voice of comfort to callers.
  • Work the 12‑hour rotating shift pattern across the 24/7 operation.
  • Progress towards a controller role, involving direct communication with officers.

Application Timeline

  1. Initial Application – complete an application form and answer questions demonstrating alignment with the essential and desirable criteria.
  2. Paper Sift – independent reviewers evaluate each response on a 1–4 scale.
  3. Assessment Centre – includes:
    • Spelling Test
    • Statement Test (Listening)
    • Mapping Exercise
    • Typing Test
    • Problem‑Solving Exercise
    • Example Calls Exercise
  4. Interview – conducted via Microsoft Teams, lasting about an hour with scenario‑based questions.
  5. Vetting – background check and gathering of personal information.
  6. Final Offer – formal job offer upon successful completion of all stages.

Training and Tutoring

After the offer, you will undergo 6 weeks of classroom training (Mon‑Fri). No annual leave may be taken during this period. Following training, a tutor will guide you as you begin to handle live calls and transition into the full role of OCC Communications Officer.
