Working at one of the largest quarries in the U.K, The shift Maintenance Electrician is responsible for ensuring that electrical systems and equipment are functioning properly. Their job involves inspecting, maintaining, and repairing electrical components to prevent downtime and ensure a safe reliable plant. Additionally, they may be involved in installing new electrical systems and troubleshooting electrical issues as they arise.

Mission and role of the function
- Start-up & shut-down routines and maximising throughput within the capacity of the plant.
- Maintenance and repair of fixed plant within the scope of your competence and to keep accurate records per management requirements, to undertake maintenance works to static plant and site assets as required by the manufacturer and Heidelberg Materials
- To carry out planned maintenance and inspection duties and to keep accurate records per management requirements following the site regime, To undertake maintenance works to static plant as required by the manufacturer and Heidelberg Materials.
- Carry out and support with the installation of electrical assets and systems.
- To operate, inspect and maintain the processing equipment to produce materials in accordance with the site productivity targets and maintenance-specific and role-based productivity KPIs.
- Carry out cleaning and housekeeping, and any other 5s-related duties as required by management and per the site regime.
- To be able to operate machines tools & equipment safely and in accordance with regulations and manufacturers\β guidance
- To undertake these duties at other Heidelberg Materials sites in the area within reasonable travelling distance where transport or travelling allowance may be provided if the distance exceeds the normal home journey.
- Train and supervise Apprentice Maintenance Technicians
Key Accountabilities
- To maintain and repair static plant in a safe and efficient manner
- To maintain, where required, static plant in a good order physically, cleaning, inspecting, repairing, and lubricating in accordance with the manufacturers and Hanson recommendations.
- To complete maintenance activities using site CMMS to record work time and the conditions of equipment.
- To keep up-to-date records of maintenance activities
- Fulfil responsibilities of use of Maintenance Software
- To report problems or defects of the static plant to your line manager, supervisor or chargehand
- To complete and adhere to risk assessment that covers any health safety and environmental risks
- To complete near-hit reports as required by Site Management.
- To operate plant & machinery in an energy-efficient manner.
- Good timekeeping
- Comply with Company IMS procedures.
- To liaise with supervisors on technical and safety issues.
- Assist in the implementation and commissioning of capital investment projects
LV/HV Installations
- Implement the site electrical maintenance strategy, by carrying out PPM checks, documenting the findings and updating the company CMMS.
- Support the development, optimization and expansion of the site CMMS.
- Work with HV & LV distribution systems, such as switchgear, panelboards, MCCs and DBs
- Maintain and repair LV & RLV general power and lighting.
- Maintain & troubleshoot (LV & HV) electrical motors & starters such as DOL, Y/D, Soft-starts, VSD/VFD, liquid resistance.
- Basic understanding of motor alignment, vibration and temperature, and its relevance to roller and sleeve bearing systems, for assisting the condition-based maintenance strategies.
Instrumentation Systems
- Working knowledge of process instrumentation and calibration of load cells, strain gauges, radar & ultrasonic level devices, Gas Analysers.
- Working knowledge of process instrumentation and calibration of pressure, temperature, flow Delta T, Delta P,
- PID controllers
Control and Safety Systems
- Work with safety-critical control systems and associated interlocks (electrical [Pilz] and mechanical [Castel/Fortress])
- Basic skills and understanding of PLC industrial automation, digital inputs and outputs, analogue Inputs and outputs, industrial ethernet, bus systems, SCADA, Allen Bradley SLC/PLC5/Control Logix, Siemens S5/S7, Modicon, etc.
- Where applicable understand programming, ladder logic, structured text, parameters and scaling related to PLC systems, to aid in the troubleshooting and fault finding of the system.
