Outreach Practitioner – Seren Lodge Mother and Baby Unit
Seren Lodge Mother and Baby Unit, a collaboration between NHS England and NHS Wales, will open in January 2026 on the grounds of the Countess of Chester Health Park. The unit provides specialist care for women with mental health problems during pregnancy and in the year after birth, including an 8‑bed in‑patient unit that serves Cheshire, Merseyside and North Wales.

Main duties
- Provide high‑quality mental health care to patients, ensuring therapeutic support during inpatient stay and in the postnatal period.
- Apply the 6 C framework (Care, Compassion, Competence, Communication, Courage, Commitment) in all interactions.
- Work collaboratively with a multi‑disciplinary team, supervising junior staff and coordinating care plans.
- Maintain high standards of practice, safeguarding, and adherence to the Mental Health Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.
- Deliver culturally sensitive care that recognises the impact of mental health on family dynamics and early child development.
- Engage families and carers in treatment planning and provide education on perinatal mental health.

Person specification
Essential criteria
- Registered in a relevant profession (NMC Registered Nurse, Social Worker, Occupational Therapist or Midwife) with current professional registration.
- Evidence of continued professional development.
- High level of clinical expertise in perinatal mental health.
- Strong understanding of national policy, health/social care issues, and safeguarding.
- Experience practicing autonomously in a multi‑disciplinary setting with supervision experience.
- Proven triage, assessment and risk management skills for complex mental health needs.
Desirable criteria
- Postgraduate qualification in perinatal mental health or related field.
- Experience working in Mother and Baby Units or specialist perinatal services.
- Knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and relevant safeguarding processes.
