Overview
Specialist Support workers required for 36 hours per week in Knowsley. Join to apply for the Specialist Support workers role at Alternative Futures Group. To support a young person with Autism who requires 24-hour support and can exhibit behaviours deemed as challenging. You will be supporting them in a newly developed state of the art home, fully tech-equipped to meet the needs of the people living there.
Responsibilities
- Provide specialist care and support and deliver our vision to create a world where people control their lives to the people AFG support in line with each individual’s personalised plan.
- Provide all health-related and social support to people with diagnoses such as Learning Disability, Autism and Mental Health.
- Support people who present with behaviours that challenge by using appropriate techniques and strategies.
- Provide safe medication and pain management to the people we support in line with their medication care plan.
- Manage medical equipment and supplies and monitor depletion, re-ordering as necessary to ensure nothing runs low.
- Attend all clinical mandatory and specialist training sessions, face to face and online, to remain competent to deliver care.
- Ensure all incidents which cause or have the potential to cause harm are reported and recorded in a timely manner, in line with AFG policies and procedures.
- Support people to design, develop and own the support they receive, contributing to Personalised Planning.
- Support people to make informed choices and increase their independence, following the principles of the Mental Capacity Act when decisions are difficult.
- Support people to exercise their cultural beliefs and practices and enable them to form and maintain relationships of their choice.
- Support people to maintain their home/living environment and to access their community.
- Promote and increase independence for the people we support, and enable them to take positive risks where appropriate.
- Ensure the people we support are not abused, neglected or ill-treated; stop any such poor treatment, make the situation safe and report concerns.
General Duties & Enabling Support
- Provide personalised support to people with complex care needs, including activities of daily living, medication administration and managing medical equipment and supplies.
- Help people achieve outcomes as per their Personalised Plan, ensuring safe and effective care.
- Support people to develop and maintain relationships and facilitate new relationships as identified in their Personalised Plan.
- Support people to make informed choices around a healthy lifestyle and meet their leisure, work, social, emotional and spiritual needs.
- Assist people to connect with their community as identified in their Personalised Plan.
Training & Development
- Participate in training and development per the Alternative Futures Group programme and any required external training.
- Attend and participate in supervision, performance reviews and team meetings.
- Develop and share skills to aid in the provision and improvement of support.
Person Specification – Essential Criteria
- Ability to support people in line with their rights, choices and responsibilities.
- Positive attitude to people with complex physical, learning disabilities and/or mental health problems.
- Ability to provide sympathetic, emotional and practical support; help others make informed daily choices.
- Good verbal communication, listening skills and written English for accurate record keeping.
- Good interpersonal skills.
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a Health & Social Care paid or unpaid role.
Personal Attributes
- Willingness to attend all clinical mandatory and specialist training courses and events.
- Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, covering 24 hours/7 days.
- Drivers are preferred for this role due to occasional travel for induction; public transport links are available and driving isn’t an ongoing requirement.
- Sleep-in shifts are paid at £12.60 per hour.
