Head of Health, Safety & Security
Location: Birmingham (Hybrid working model)
Salary: £90,000 – £100,000 + Excellent Benefits
We are currently supporting a high-profile national infrastructure organisation in the search for aHead of Health, Safety & Security to join their Technical Services Directorate. This is a senior leadership opportunity, offering the chance to influence and drive the strategic approach to health, safety, and security across one of the UK’s most ambitious infrastructure programmes.
Operating at the forefront of design and delivery, this role is responsible for embedding a robust safety culture, providing expert advice at both operational and leadership levels, and ensuring regulatory and organisational standards are not only met, but exceeded.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership and direction on all matters related to health, safety, and security across development and delivery teams.
- Lead and manage a team of Senior HSS Managers and oversee functional line management of embedded HSS professionals.
- Promote and embed a proactive safety culture and behavioural safety programme across the business and supply chain.
- Support compliance with Safe Decision Making and Common Safety Method – Risk Assessment (CSM-RA) requirements.
- Oversee the validation and onboarding of subcontractors from an HSS perspective.
- Facilitate the provision of HSS support services across complex, multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects.
- Influence policy development and represent the organisation in senior-level stakeholder and delivery forums.
Candidate Requirements:
- Chartered-level Health & Safety qualification (e.g. CMIOSH) or demonstrable equivalent experience.
- Significant senior-level experience in health, safety, and security leadership within a regulated and high-risk environment (e.g. infrastructure, construction, nuclear, transport).
- Strong understanding of occupational health, wellbeing, behavioural safety, and security management.
- Proven track record in driving cultural change and continuous improvement across complex organisational structures.
- Effective communicator with strong analytical and influencing skills, and experience working collaboratively across client, consultant and contractor functions.
