Due to staff turnover, we have a vacancy in our Poole Office for a Senior Structural Engineer.

You would be working in a small, friendly team, handling the Structural aspects of a range of projects, varying from extensions and single properties up to housing estates, schools, industrial estates and more.

Your role will be full-time and will include:

  • Working within a design team providing technical design best practice with other engineers, architects and contractors for building projects.
  • Being responsible for the production of technical design information, including drawings, calculations, specifications and reports
  • Liaising effectively with clients, local authorities and other design team members
  • Undertaking the project management and financial control of a range of projects
  • Assisting in the preparation of bids and fee proposals
  • Developing business with new and existing clients
  • Designing in all the primary construction materials: steel, reinforced concrete, masonry and timber and learning to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of the use of these materials for specific projects.

Essentials we are looking for:

  • Preferably Chartered Engineer (or Associate/Incorporated Engineer) or a minimum of 5 years relevant experience and working towards professional status
  • Experience in leading and managing small teams, delegating and supervising the work of team members and acting as a mentor for junior members to develop their technical skills
  • Experience in liaising with clients, associated professionals and other disciplines team members on all relevant aspects of projects
  • Experience in designing all the primary construction materials: steel, reinforced concrete, masonry and timber and able to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of the use of these materials for specific projects
  • Experience of carrying out structural appraisals on buildings and producing written reports, including for basement impact assessments, listed building applications and house purchases
  • Competent in using a variety of methods of analysis and media, including traditional hand calculations and computer analysis using proprietary software, to solve structural engineering problems
  • Knowledge, use of and review of appropriate Eurocodes, British Standards and specifications and applying these to the structural design of projects
  • Knowledge and experience of construction techniques, construction plant and machinery, temporary support systems, construction programming and sequencing – ideally having had a period of site experience on one or more construction projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Good understanding of the CDM 2015 Regulations
  • Able to assist during the construction stage, including site inspections
  • Experience in working on new development projects and/or existing buildings
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • UK Driving Licence
