Senior Ecology Consultant
Location: Leeds, Manchester, London at Gateshead

Our Ecology team is at the forefront of helping clients achieve compliance with ecological regulations while promoting sustainable development. From Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) consultancy to protected species surveys and ecological licensing, we help clients balance development needs with environmental conservation.

About Role

How You’ll Contribute

  • Lead and manage a variety of ecological surveys and mitigation strategies.
  • Conduct and oversee Phase 1/UK Habs habitat surveys and protected species assessments.
  • Deliver expert ecological reporting, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEA) and Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA).
  • Mentor and support junior team members, helping them develop their expertise.
  • Engage with clients, contractors, and stakeholders, offering expert advice and solutions.
  • Maintain and build strong client relationships, ensuring high standards of ecological consultancy.

Knowledge And Skills

  • Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • At least four years of professional experience in ecological consultancy.
  • Expertise in protected species and habitat surveys, with strong field skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of UK ecological legislation and planning policy.
  • Strong technical report writing skills, following CIEEM guidelines.
  • Commercial awareness and client management skills.
  • Ideally, Bat and/or GCN Natural England licences (Level 1 or above preferred).
  • Full, clean UK driving licence.
  • Membership of CIEEM (or working towards it).
