Job Description

Role purpose and overview

As a Senior Publisher, you'll be responsible for editing and publishing Money content in a timely way to the highest possible standards, ranging from personal finance news stories to evergreen guides that help Telegraph subscribers manage their money. Working in a fast-moving environment, you will be capable of publishing and revising numerous stories a day with accuracy and flair.

The Money Senior Publisher will execute publishing and promotion plans, sub-edit, build and revise articles, and have responsibility for their presentation and quality. They will work closely with commissioners, visual teams and other publishers to develop articles. This involves challenging commissioners on article briefs, formats and copy, and collaborating on headlines. They will commission visuals and graphs to enhance our copy, and direct publishers in the Money and Business pool on editing and presentation. The Senior Publisher will be immersed in audience data, using it to tailor commissions and reach new readers.

Reporting to the Head of Money Publishing, this role is expected to occasionally act up to cover the rota.

Key responsibilities

  • Support lead publisher(s) in challenging commissioners and contribute to publishing and promotion plans for individual articles as well as special projects and major events.
  • Oversee the publication of individual articles and special projects, subbing copy and building articles.
  • Revise copy, headlines and 'build' of articles to verify the content is accurate, in accordance with house style and that the files are optimised for our digital audiences.
  • Take responsibility for hero pieces, ensure they have the right headlines, visual assets, publishing schedule and promotion plan.
  • Work with commissioners to help shape the brief to ensure the article achieves its full potential.
  • Analyse audience data to learn what works for the Telegraph's readers.
  • Liaise with Homepage & App and our Audience teams (Social, Newsletters, SEO, Community etc.) to plan and enhance our content across different platforms.
  • Generate creative solutions to presenting, publishing and promoting content online (e.g. social collabs, app sells, newsletters, commissioning visuals).

Key skills

  • Significant experience of writing and sub-editing personal finance journalism on digital platforms.
  • Quick, accurate subbing and writing of headlines.
  • Digital publishing skills including knowledge of visual storytelling and a brilliant eye for photography as well as creative flair for info boxes, polls, graphics, etc.
  • Enthusiasm and imagination for presenting stories digitally.
  • Able to respond well under pressure and adhere to strict deadlines.
  • Understanding of social media and SEO.
  • Familiarity with using content management systems for digital publishing.
  • Strong news sense and judgment.
