User Researcher and Human Factors Engineer

The User Researcher and Human Factors Engineer will play a key role in our expanding team to help inform personas, design direction, and new opportunities for our AI-based software. This person will work closely with engineering, design, and regulatory teams to define, execute on, and report out user research and usability testing.

Job Responsibilities :

  • Conduct research to gain insights into the needs, behaviors, and preferences of both healthcare professionals and patients who will use the software as a medical device (SaMD).
  • Design, conduct, and document comprehensive user research studies, formative, and summative testing, to inform user personas, product development, and validate usability.
  • Work closely with designers, developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to ensure that user needs are incorporated into the design and development process.
  • Identify potential usability issues, design problems, and opportunities for improvement in the software\’s user interface and overall user experience.
  • Design and implement various research methods, such as interviews, surveys, usability testing, and field studies, to gather data and insights.
  • Analyze the data to identify key findings and provide recommendations to the design and development team.
  • Understand the intended users of the device, their skills, and their limitations in order to inform the design of an effective interface.
  • Inform the device design to prevent safety errors and to allow for easy recovery from errors.
  • Provide adequate training and documentation to ensure safe and effective use of the device.
  • Ensure that the software is safe, effective, and meets regulatory requirements.

Educational Requirements & Work Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher preferably in Human Factors Engineering, Cognitive Psychology, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in UX research and human factors engineering, preferably in medical devices or healthcare.
  • 3+ years in the SaMD industry.
  • Demonstrated experience with FDA human factors guidance.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing research methods, analysis, and impact on product development.
  • Experience with both formative and summative usability testing.

A reasonable estimate of the yearly base compensation range for San Francisco Bay Area is $140,000-$190,000, cash bonus, and stock options.
