You Me Bum Bum Train is renowned for creating interactive theatre experiences that audiences have described as life-changing. Our previous work has been critically acclaimed, receiving numerous five-star reviews. Performances take place in empty London landmark buildings, with each production becoming more elaborate, inventive, and ambitious than the one before.

YMBBT is a creative, not-for-profit enterprise supported by dedicated professionals, supporters, and volunteers who bring the show to life.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Head of Lighting and AV for our upcoming show in Winter 2024. This is a freelance, senior position, full-time within our production team. We seek a highly motivated, enthusiastic individual with broad knowledge of Technical Theatre Production, including Audio, Video, and Lighting. This role offers impactful experience in live events.

The successful candidate will assist with kit preparation, design, installation, maintenance, operation, testing, show night operation, and get-out. Although a senior role, support will be provided by our creative and technical teams, and specialist training will be offered.

Responsibilities

  1. Maintain all Lighting and AV equipment according to artistic requirements.
  2. Manage the lighting department, including scheduling and training volunteers.
  3. Ensure health and safety guidelines are followed; keep the technical space organized and clean.
  4. Work effectively under high pressure and strict deadlines.
  5. Oversee lighting and AV systems during all production stages, including installation, operation, testing, and get-out, involving manual handling of equipment.
  6. Collaborate with other departments such as Creative Directors, Producers, and Stage Managers.
  7. Operate and maintain lighting and AV equipment as per creative specifications.
  8. Perform daily safety checks, maintain logs, and coordinate repairs or maintenance.
  9. Monitor and record equipment inspections (LOLER, PAT) to ensure safety compliance.
  10. Interpret lighting and AV designers’ plans.
  11. Order equipment based on design plans and maintain an inventory trail.
  12. Build relationships with suppliers like Christie Lites and 80six for support and delivery.
  13. Adhere to YMBBT Ltd’s policies, including Volunteer Agreement, NDA, and Code of Conduct.

Candidate Requirements

  • Experience in Lighting and AV installation and show running, preferably in large-scale theatre.
  • Knowledge of current H&S legislation and industry best practices.
  • Experience in team leadership.

Contract term: ASAP to February/March 2025.
