Underwriter – Property & Package

Birmingham with hybrid working

Join our experienced Property & Package team in Birmingham as an Underwriter.

In this pivotal role, you’ll be responsible for assessing risk, evaluating insurance applications, and determining appropriate coverage options. You’ll collaborate closely with brokers and clients to understand their needs and craft tailored insurance solutions that deliver real value.

Your Role

  • Assessing and underwriting insurance risks in line with our business plan and your personal authority.
  • Building strong, collaborative relationships with customers, brokers, business partners, and colleagues to maximise your influence and impact.
  • Contributing your expertise to help shape strategy, share knowledge, and drive best practices across the team.
  • Acting as a positive ambassador for the department and wider business, helping to strengthen our brand presence.
  • Ensuring full compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Following underwriting standards and best practices to manage risk and drive operational efficiency.
  • Staying informed on market trends and demonstrating awareness of the insurance cycle to make informed, timely decisions. 

About You

  • Proven experience in the UK Property & Package underwriting market.
  • Commercial acumen with the ability to identify key profit drivers and contribute to long-term value creation.
  • A solid working knowledge of relevant software tools, including Excel and departmental systems.
  • A good understanding of legal and regulatory frameworks within the insurance industry.
  • Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Good interpersonal and negotiation skills, with a creative approach to underwriting and programme design.
