Purpose of the job
The Building Services Engineer is key in providing a design engineering service. The Building Services Engineer is responsible for the production of discipline specific design and engineering deliverables to support the project.
Main purpose of the role:
The Engineer is principally a hands-on design-based role with a degree of team leadership. The Engineer is responsible for delivering a package of work within a project within their discipline. Frequent liaison with other disciplines in the design team and the client would be expected. The engineers are the main interface between senior management and hands-on design.
Key Accountabilities
- Development of designs to satisfy the technical specification,
- Production of design deliverables throughout the design process,
- Checking of basic design calculations,
- Contribution to design reviews and safety reviews,
- Preparation of technical specifications,
- Preparation of installation, commissioning, and operating documents,
- Ensuring quality and timely delivery of design documentation throughout all phases of the design process,
- Compliance with safety and statutory regulations,
- Develop cost effective technical solutions,
- Provide support during Site surveys, installation and commissioning.
Occupational Skills and Knowledge
- HNC (minimum) in a relevant technical / engineering discipline or demonstrable experience,
- Associate membership of a discipline specific engineering institution.
Duties and Requirements
Essential
- Knowledge of the fundamentals within your engineering discipline,
- Previous experience in the design of Building Services (inc: Ventilation and piped services),
- Good understanding of safety legislation and statutory regulations,
- Strong organisational and interpersonal skills,
- Commercial awareness,
- Knowledge and experience of design software (Typically AutoCAD or similar).
Desirable
- Degree Qualified in a relevant technical/engineering discipline,
- Experience in the nuclear industry,
- Management of design teams in the technical delivery of projects,
- Management of sub-contractors,
- Knowledge and use of REVIT software,
- Knowledge and use of IESVE design software,
- Construction Site experience.
