Are you an experienced designer with a passion for children’s books? Join our Quarto Kids team as a Senior Designer, working across a diverse range of titles for Frances Lincoln Children’s Books, Wide Eyed Editions and Ivy Kids eco.

Quarto creates inspiring books for adults and children published across the globe. As a Senior Designer in the Quarto Kids team, you’ll bring strong design skills and creative thinking to picture books, non-fiction and novelty titles, collaborating with editors, illustrators and the wider team to help shape standout books for young readers.

Working hours

35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 09.30 am to 5.30 pm. We currently operate a discretionary hybrid model, with three days in our London office and two working from home.

About the role

The Senior Designer is responsible for managing the design process across a variety of children’s titles. You’ll work closely with editorial and production teams, freelancers, and illustrators, and report to the Art Director.

What you will be involved in:

  • Designing covers and layouts for picture books, non-fiction and novelty titles
  • Working on complex and high-profile projects across multiple imprints
  • Collaborating with editors and other key stakeholders to define and deliver strong visual concepts
  • Contributing ideas for illustrators, formats, finishes, concepts and design trends
  • Managing project timelines and schedules to meet deadlines
  • Briefing and overseeing freelance designers and illustrators
  • Meeting with illustrators and agents to explore talent for current and future publishing plans
  • Supporting junior team members with advice and feedback

About you

You’ll have at least three years of experience in children’s book design and be comfortable managing your own projects from start to finish.

You will be able to show you can:

  • Produce creative, high-quality design that meets the brief and schedule
  • Stay organised and manage multiple projects effectively
  • Work without supervision while contributing to a collaborative team
  • Communicate clearly with colleagues, illustrators and agents
  • Use Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) on Mac to a high standard
  • Understand pre-press, print and production processes
  • Brief and support freelance designers and illustrators
  • Contribute ideas and initiative in a supportive, creative environment
