Purpose

As part of the Grid Department’s Systems Integration (SI) Team, this position is key within the Offshore Renewables Business, focussing on the delivery of large-scale offshore wind projects in the UK, Europe and overseas.

Belonging to the Project Services Engineering Team and reporting to the SI SCADA Discipline Lead, you will be responsible for implementing robust and cost-effective engineering strategies and plans, tendering, negotiating and managing offshore supply, installation and maintenance contracts related to SCADA and control systems within offshore projects.

Planning and implementing delivery sites and logistics, you will comply with company and business engineering standards including technical acceptance criteria, ensuring quality, best practice and excellent H&SE performance is applied. You will also manage engineering activities and decisions across the offshore business.

Working as part of a global business with activities in many countries across Europe and the rest of the world, you will be required to travel frequently to various locations in the UK and overseas, being capable of managing contractors working at different project locations.

Responsibilities
You will be appointed within one (or more) of Iberdrola’s offshore projects worldwide, providing key engineering advice, assessment and recommendations to ensure delivery of a multi-contract package within time, to budget and quality following industry best practice and observing the maximum respect for Health, Safety and the Environment to ensure regulatory and legal compliance.

Providing professional advice on engineering strategies / risk levels and commercial agreements to the key package, you will ensure cost effective technical solutions are identified, fully evaluated and the risk profile is fully understood by the project. Ensuring that all assessment, advice and recommendations are fully documented in accordance with all internal procedures and industry best practice, and that sufficient technical and commercial due diligence (whether internal or external) exists to support those business decisions, you will deliver consistent, high-quality, cost-effective engineering advice to the key packages and projects.

Managing contractors and scopes of work to ensure delivery of the key work packages to programme and budget, you will also be required to manage the certification process of the control systems with independent verification bodies (where applicable) to reduce design risk and enhance asset value.

Ensuring that Health, Safety and Environmental requirements are fully considered and adhered to in design, ensuring compliance with legislation and industry best practice, you will manage the inspection and commissioning of appropriate aspects of offshore plant to ensure assets are supplied and installed to the required quality and engineering standards.

Maintaining full awareness of the latest technical and commercial developments, identifying suitable new SCADA, IT or Protection technology has potential to reduce cost and risk or improve safety, you will implement offshore standards, procedures, tools, best practices and quality requirements for key work packages to ensure that packages are delivered according to specification, budget and programme without compromising safety.

Ensuring that appropriate lessons learnt regarding offshore wind farm development and construction are captured and shared across the different Offshore Project work packages, you will collaborate with the Lead/Principal Engineer to ensure implementation to enhance business value.

What you’ll bring

To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate as minimum your proven experience in the integration of large-scale SCADA, PLC or DCS projects.

With working knowledge of the deployment of wide area and local area networks including fibre installations, you will possess experience in the deployment of control systems and networks within power plants.

IT literate with the ability to operate MS Office systems and other IT based project management software, you will also hold comprehensive knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental legislation associated with offshore/marine construction projects.

Displaying your comprehensive knowledge of engineering procedures, standards and guidance, you will work independently and within a team environment, as well as being flexible to travel around the UK and overseas.
