About the role

We are currently recruiting for a Personal Advisor on a full-time basis to provide trauma-informed support to vulnerable young people aged 16 to 25 who are either looked after or have recently left care.

These young people may have been placed in care for a variety of reasons, including:

  • Significant risk of harm at home

  • Parents/guardians unable to care for them

  • Complex needs requiring respite care

  • As an unaccompanied asylum seeker

Looked after children and care leavers represent a particularly vulnerable group. Many have experienced abuse, neglect, and trauma, and some may have been separated from their families, particularly in the case of asylum-seeking young people. These experiences often lead to significant emotional, behavioural, and mental health challenges, placing them at increased risk.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide trauma-informed support to young people aged 16 to 25 in care or who have recently left care.

  • Build trusting relationships and offer tailored advice and guidance to help these young people navigate the challenges of independent living.

  • Promote the well-being and safety of young people, ensuring their emotional and mental health needs are met.

  • Advocate for and support young people through the transition from care to adulthood.

About You:

We are looking for a compassionate individual with relevant experience working in:

  • Schools

  • Youth Centres

  • Community Centres

  • Other Local Authority roles with children and families

You should have a sound understanding of the issues facing socially excluded young people and the ability to offer support and guidance in a sensitive and practical manner. A driving licence and vehicle are required, as you will need to travel independently.

The ideal candidate will also have knowledge of:

  • The Children Act 1989 & 2004 (relating to 16-21-year-olds)

  • The Children (Leaving Care) Act 2000 Regulations and Guidance

  • The Asylum & Immigration Act

  • Safeguarding children and young people
