TECHNICAL SAFETY ENGINEER

Our client, a global oil and gas operator is seeking an experienced Technical Safety Engineer to join their team in Aberdeen. This is a short-term contract with hybrid working.

JOB SUMMARY:

This position is required to support the ongoing demands from operations, engineering & major projects entry which include safety case updates and submissions, Technical Safety studies to support decision making, ALARP demonstrations to meet regulatory requirements, implementing regional regulations to support Technical Safety assessments. The role has particular focus on the eMoC process and performs the HSE screening (regulatory and process safety), as well as technical support and input.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performing major accident hazard studies

Updating Safety Cases

Manage Safety Case Submissions

Updating performance standards

Performing availability & reliability studies for safety & environmental critical elements

Arrange and attend HAZANs, HAZOPs, HAZIDs & LOPAs

Support day to day operations – ORAs, ad hoc risk assessments, provide advice & guidance

Manage 3rd party consultant scopes of work

Support development of major accident hazard procedures

Understand and apply the principles of ALARP

Understand and apply the principles of Process Safety Management

Addressing verification findings

Addressing audit findings

Supporting the audit & assurance programmes

QUALIFICATIONS/TRAINING:

Minimum qualification – Engineering or Science degree

Previous experience in oil & gas industry

Previous experience in Technical Safety

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

Strong technical background, excellent engineering knowledge and good communication skills to drive risk management and technical safety to successful conclusions across all aspects of the organisation.

Previous experience in a similar role, preferably gained within the oil and gas industry

Working knowledge of UK major hazards regulatory framework

Proven track record of identifying and developing sound and innovative technical solutions

Knowledge of associated technical/engineering disciplines e.g. instrument and controls, process engineering

Knowledge of consequence modelling & associated frequency analysis

Knowledge of SIL Assessment & SIL Validation

Effective relationship-builder at all levels, internally and externally

Effective communicator both written and verbal
