We are seeking a skilled Senior Highway Design Engineer to contribute to the planning and delivery of key infrastructure projects, including Local Transport Plan (LTP), Section 106, and other highway and infrastructure schemes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare highway designs in line with national standards (DMRB, MCHW, Manual for Streets).
- Develop works orders under the Council's Term Maintenance Contract (TMC).
- Prepare bespoke NEC contracts for projects outside TMC scope.
- Manage design and construction programmes with strong financial control.
- Oversee contract administration, including payments and verification.
- Supervise construction activities and ensure quality compliance.
- Liaise effectively with stakeholders, including Council staff, Members, and the public.
- Support the Council's strategic goals through safe, efficient project delivery.
Requirements:
Qualifications:
- HNC/HND, degree, or equivalent in highway design.
- Working towards (or possession of) project management or ILM3 qualification is desirable.
- NEC Project Manager accreditation is an advantage.
Experience:
- Minimum 10 years in highway design engineering.
- Experience managing a small team.
- Familiarity with NEC contract administration and tender preparation.
Skills & Knowledge:
- Proficient in AutoCAD and highway design principles.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Sound knowledge of health & safety legislation, including CDM.
- Commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
This is a 6-month contract working hybrid from Rochester, a minimum of 3 days per week onsite is required. Day rate on offer of £240 inside ir35.
