Responsibilities:
- Integration of battery DC system (BESS Skid), AC systems, and Energy Management Systems (EMS) at the site, ensuring a seamless integration of all components.
- Leading the technical design and project management of battery-based energy storage systems, from conceptual design to commissioning and post-commissioning support. This includes coordination with technical Solutions team, product team and external EPC, ICP and contractors.
- Preparing integration test plans for BESS systems and conducting technical reviews of relevant documents.
- Coordinating with internal and external stakeholders for the design and integration of control systems, ensuring clear communication and alignment.
- Being familiar with and applying codes, standards, and regulations relevant to the UK.
- Driving technical innovation and supporting the technology roadmap for BESS products and systems.
- Preparing electrical equipment specifications, data sheets, and bid evaluations to support procurement and ensure compliance.
- Review of thermal management, fire suppression and safety controls in line with UL9540A and UK HSE / Fire Safety expectations.
- Deep understanding of PCS technology, operations, fault contributions, inertia and reactive power flow behaviour under dynamic grid conditions.
- Assist in technical risk identification and resolution through active participation in HAZID, HAZOP and design review workshops.
- Monitor the operational performance of commissioned BESS assets across multiple sites, analyse system data to detect anomalies, and lead root cause investigations of technical issues.
- Collaborate with engineering, product, and O&M teams to implement corrective actions, system updates, or design changes aimed at improving reliability, safety, and performance of the BESS units.
Qualification and expertise:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems or related discipline.
- 6+ years of experience working on utility-scale BESS projects.
- In-depth knowledge of battery technologies (LFP/NMC), PCS functionality, protection, communication interfaces, and system-level design.
- Familiarity with UK grid compliance (ENA G99) and commissioning processes.
- Experience working with FATs, SIT/SAT, alarm management, and integrated controls.
- Strong coordination, stakeholder management and problem-solving skills.
