The GSE Design Engineer - Focal Point is responsible for developing mechanical designs in response to the group demands and customers’ requirements. The design activity is done using CATIA, but other tools can also be used.
In summary, the GSE design engineer/local focal point must:
- Technical Design and Engineering - Design ground support equipment such as tooling, jigs, test stands, lifting devices and handling equipment for aircraft systems.
- Use CAD software (CATIA) to create detailed 2D and 3D design of parts, large assemblies and concept designs based on technical specifications or the information available at the time.
- Reverse engineer existing products and/or drawings.
Requirements and Standards
- Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory guidelines.
- Interpret and incorporate customer requirements, regulations and industry standards into designs.
Project Management
- Project Manage in-country activity, including proposals, schedules and budgets.
- Collaborate with cross-functional and transnational teams.
- Create and maintain project documentation, including design reviews, risk assessments and bills of materials (BOM).
- Identify and track key characteristics and critical items of a design.
Testing and Validation
- Cross check existing designs.
- Validate detailed design drawings respecting the international and customer specific standards and specifications.
- Lead prototype fabrication, testing, and validation of equipment.
- Resolve technical issues and implement design modifications based on test outcomes or field feedback.
Continuous Improvement and Innovation
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives for existing GSE.
- Research and integrate new technologies to improve efficiency, reliability, and safety.
Communication and Support
- Support the Project Managers with quotations.
- Be the point of contact for technical queries related to design topics.
- Provide technical support to the manufacturing team in resolving operational challenges.
- Communicate effectively with suppliers and customers to clarify design requirements and ensure deliverables are met.
To be considered for this opportunity, you will need a degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a related field. Experience in Aeronautical Engineering is preferred. Knowledge of VBA, CATIA and C# programming language or similar. Knowledge of CAD design for additive manufacturing. Knowledge and understanding of the ISO tolerance system, CE standards and safety factors. It will be advantageous to have knowledge of Electrical design (schematic and PCB), hydraulic and pneumatic design, and ATEX.
