Purpose of the Role

The Nutritionist will be dedicated to the Sherborne Schools Group, including Sherborne Boys, Sherborne Girls, Sherborne Prep, and Hanford School. This role is responsible for supporting the education and development of pupils, staff, and coaches in relation to all aspects of nutrition. The Nutritionist will take an innovative and forward-thinking approach to optimise learning, performance, and wellbeing outcomes across the school community.

The role requires strong communication skills and the ability to translate complex nutrition information into clear, practical messages related to food, health, and performance. The Nutritionist will work closely with catering teams, school leadership, and pupils to deliver impactful education and to influence the food offer, ensuring alignment with the Food Information Regulations and school wellbeing strategy.

The individual will also contribute to showcasing successful initiatives via written articles and presentations and will play a key part in shaping a food environment that reflects both tradition and innovation across the schools.

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend Sherborne Schools (Boys, Girls, Prep, and Hanford) on a daily basis, managing a schedule that reflects the needs of each site.
  • Deliver engaging, evidence-based nutrition education sessions to a wide range of audiences including boarding houses, day pupils, sports teams, teachers, and prep schools.
  • Support the growing Sports Department by providing group and individualised nutrition support tailored to training and performance demands. Working alongside their MDT.
  • Design and deliver new educational approaches in collaboration with the central nutrition team, aligned with the ethos and curriculum of each school.
  • Develop feedback systems (e.g. termly forums or surveys) to bridge the gap between student voice and the catering team, ensuring continual improvement in food quality and relevance.
  • Implement behaviour change strategies around food, underpinned by scientific evidence and aligned with school values.
  • Innovate and propose new ideas to enhance the food offer, service models, and sustainable practices across school sites.
  • Lead on the creation of case studies and success stories that evidence the impact of nutrition interventions.
  • Deliver internal communications through blogs, posters, campaigns, newsletters, and digital content.
  • Maintain nutrition support for identified pupils requiring bespoke guidance due to academic, sporting, or medical needs.
  • Provide training and ongoing education to catering teams around nutrition, allergens, and food service delivery.
  • Review and advise on menus across all school sites with regard to nutritional quality, allergen management, and food diversity.
  • Write, check, and implement medical diet menus in line with student requirements and in partnership with the Medical Diets Team.
  • Promote a joined-up approach by working closely with on-site chefs, food technology staff, and Heads of House.
  • Support the implementation of the school’s Climate Action Plan alongside the Chartwells Nutrition and Sustainability Team.
  • Contribute to the national Chartwells nutrition community through sharing insights, best practices, and collaborative projects.

Person Specification

  • Graduate of a BDA- or Association for Nutrition-accredited degree in nutrition or dietetics.
  • Experience working in the foodservice, education, or sports nutrition sector preferred.
  • Confident communicator able to deliver sessions to small and large groups, including staff and senior stakeholders.
  • Experience or confidence working within a performance sport setting, with the ability to adapt strategies for young athletes.
  • Familiar and confident with using CANVA, Microsoft Office, and working IT systems for communication, content creation, and data handling.
  • Capable of independently managing a busy, multi-site schedule with strong organisation and time-management skills.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and passionate about improving food culture and student outcomes through nutrition.
  • Aware of national nutrition and health trends with a commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Strong presentation and writing skills for internal and external communications.
  • Willing to travel across sites and occasionally stay overnight for events or meetings.
