The Application Engineer provides technical, product and application support to the sales teams, ensuring the customer has the best solution for their requirements. This person is an expert of the Mitsubishi Electric applied product portfolio and proficient in fluid mechanics for HVAC system design. The Application Engineer will be jointly responsible for managing a shared mailbox, taking ownership of incoming enquiries, and ensuring they are assessed and responded to within agreed time frames. Their role is to understand the customer’s technical requirements, select the appropriate products, and translate that into a clear, accurate commercial proposal.

Skills/Responsibilities:

  • Review, qualify, and respond to technical enquiries submitted via the shared mailbox, ensuring clear, accurate, and timely solutions are provided within agreed service levels.
  • Develop formal proposals that match customer requirements with appropriate product selections and commercial terms, supporting the sales process and increasing conversion rates.
  • Use technical knowledge of air and water systems to identify the correct products and configurations for each application, ensuring compliance with project specifications and performance expectations.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to internal sales teams, consultants, and contractors through written responses, calls, and face-to-face meetings as needed.
  • Keep the CRM system and shared project folders updated with the latest information, ensuring full traceability and easy access to current project status and documentation.
  • Monitor and manage the shared mailbox, taking ownership of assigned enquiries and escalating issues that may impact service delivery.
  • Stay up to date with new product launches, technical bulletins, and training material to maintain expertise in the MEU-UK product portfolio and HVAC system design.
  • This includes being conversant in non-applied products such as splits, VRF, HVRF, ventilation, residential heating to identify sales opportunities for other departments.
  • Support post-bid reviews to understand win/loss reasons and contribute insights for continuous improvement in offer quality and customer engagement.

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or HNC in Engineering (Mechanical or industry related) advantageous.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience with HVAC systems or thermodynamics/fluid mechanics.
  • In depth knowledge in the application of HVAC systems particularly chilled water and low temperature hot water applications.
  • In depth knowledge of HVAC applied products, heating systems and refrigeration systems.
  • Understanding of the HVAC industry, customers, products.
  • Understanding of the RIBA Plan of Work, construction industry, building services and facilities management.
  • The individual should possess excellent overall business skills, including excellent written and verbal communication, planning, presentation, and organizational abilities.
  • Good understanding of the legislation and drivers that affect the industry.
  • Proven project management skills and multitasking experience.
