The Legal & Content Compliance team is responsible for ensuring that all of ITV’s content complies with its legal and regulatory requirements. The team works closely with a range of internal teams, and with independent production companies who produce content for us. We work in a fast-paced environment to deliver creative solutions to challenging issues.
Our hardworking highly qualified Legal team currently has an opportunity for a Programme Lawyer to join on a part-time basis. This role will be shared with another more senior colleague, offering a significant development opportunity for someone looking for something a little more ambitious on a part-time basis. Reporting to the Head of Legal Compliance, you will provide programme content legal and compliance advice to content creators for ITV (both in-house and external).
Some of your key day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Provide advice on a range of legal issues including defamation, contempt, privacy and copyright
- Provide advice on compliance with broadcasting regulations including the Ofcom Broadcasting Code
- Ensure that producers (including third parties) understand their compliance obligations
- Provide advice and support to the non-legal Compliance team on request
- Draft responses to programme regulatory complaints
- Conduct proactive compliance risk and issue management
- Input compliance data on approved broadcast and compliance systems
- Contribute to compliance process continuous improvement
Skills you’ll need (minimum criteria):
- 1+ years’ experience of legal work in television or other media production and/or content clearance, whether acquired in-house or in private practice
- Must be a fully qualified lawyer with at least 3 years PQE
- Must have broadcast compliance or defamation experience

- Excellent judgment and the ability to assess legal and reputational risks with care and balance
- A true teammate who enjoys working in an encouraging, collegiate environment
- Calm under pressure, with tried experience handling shifting priorities optimally
- Excellent communicator, both in writing and face-to-face
