Your role: In this role you will be supporting the library service by providing patient, caring confidential digital support to library customers. You will be the first point of contact for customers visiting the libraries, actively engaging with them, promoting the benefits of our online services as the primary customer access channel in order to provide a more cost effective service and to enable the self-reliance of residents of the borough. You will be modelling and demonstrating how to ‘get online’ to customers who have limited digital skills. You will be meeting and supporting customers digitally in a very busy library environment.
About you: You will need to be friendly, approachable and willing to support a range of customers with their queries. You will need to have a good understanding of how to set up and use email functions, websites, apps and common software. You will need to be confident in completing online forms and communicating with a wide range of users. You will need to have a proactive approach, be a good communicator and have the ability to actively seek information to resolve customer enquiries, using your own initiative and appropriate research tools and techniques.
About us: Customer Services deliver a variety of services from Wigan Borough libraries. You’ll work holistically with customers, within libraries, to help them gain access to appropriate services which will enable them to make positive life changes, gain employment and work towards building self-reliance, improving their health and well-being and independence. Staff members and managers will be on hand to support volunteers and with more complex enquiries. Regular support and guidance will be given by your branch manager and an alternative volunteering opportunity may be offered after a review period if either party feels this necessary. As a digital volunteer you will have the opportunity to meet new people, enhance your own digital skills and develop your own communication and customer service skills that can be used in future CV and job applications.
