Integrated Physical and Sensory Service (IPaSS) is seeking to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic Level 4 Vision Support Specialist Teaching Assistant to join the Vision Support team. This role is based within educational settings, supporting children and young people with vision and hearing impairments and physical difficulties.
Job Details:
- Grade: 7
- Salary: £31,586 - £34,314 (Term-Time Only - actual salary £24,183 - £26,272)
- Hours: 32.5 hours (Monday to Friday - 8.30 am to 3.30 pm)
- Location: The Integrated Physical and Sensory Service (IPaSS) will be based at 125 Wingfield Road, Hull, HU9 4QE, but the post holder will be required to work in various educational settings across the city.
- Start Date: Immediately
Responsibilities:
- Support a vision impaired child or young person 1 to 1 throughout the school day.
- Produce high quality resources in appropriate formats – Braille, tactile format, large print or digital.
- Maintain communication with class and subject teachers to ensure resources are appropriate and useful.
- Provide direct classroom support to ensure access to the curriculum and safety.
- Follow directions from Qualified Teachers of the Vision Impaired or Lead Practitioners for one to one teaching of specialist skills.
- Build strong relationships with students to provide emotional support and develop resilience.
- Support pupils in settings ranging from pre-school to sixth form and foster independence.

Skills and Qualifications:
- Maths and English GCSE at Grade C/Level 4 or above or equivalent are essential.
- Able to move efficiently between locations as necessary.
- SEN or HLTA qualifications or experience are desirable.
- High level of IT skills.
- Qualified UEB Braillist or willingness to undergo Braille and other specialist training.
- Good communication and time management skills.
- Ability to build strong working relationships with school staff.
- Ability to work at pace and under pressure.
- Ability to implement, monitor and review schemes of work.
- Ability to support children and young people with transitions between phases and/or schools.
- Ability to help organise and manage resources in the learning environment.
