The renal service at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust is recognised as a specialist referral centre for renal medicine serving most of Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and parts of Essex.

- Bedford Dialysis Unit

Main duties of the job: The post holder will promote high standards of professional practice and high quality care delivery within Trust and department policies, protocols and guidelines. You will deputise for the Senior Sister and/or Charge Nurse in their absence with regard to the operational management of clinical service delivery at unit level. Within your role, you will utilise effective communication methods with nursing and medical colleagues, patients and visitors in ways that are consistent with their level of understanding, culture and background. You will also need to ensure that legislation, policies and procedures are applied correctly within the renal department.

Qualifications:- First level nurse on Part 1 of the NMC register, educated to diploma level.
- Relevant clinical post-registration education to include a recognised renal course and mentorship qualification.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development and commitment to lifelong learning.
- Evidence of leadership training / development.
- Significant experience caring for patients requiring renal nursing.
- Involvement in audit / research and willingness to present findings at meetings and conferences.
- Advanced skills in quality assurance of patient dialysis treatment.
- Evidence of leadership and motivational skills, ability to lead and motivate a team.
- Demonstrates a flexible approach, able to react to the changing needs of the department.
- Ability to liaise and work with the multidisciplinary team, making recommendations to enhance the smooth running and management of the unit.
- Representing Senior Sister / Charge Nurse in their absence.
- Understanding of scheduling and capacity.
- Has an understanding of managing a busy dialysis unit.
- Awareness of current developments in pre and post registration nursing.
