ALEXANDER ASSOCIATES is working with a global clean energy technology provider to support the search for an experienced Commissioning Manager. This role offers the opportunity to take a leading position in the delivery of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across the UK and internationally. With operations spanning several continents and an ambitious approach to innovation and sustainability, this organisation is actively shaping the future of energy infrastructure, focusing on smart systems, grid-scale storage, and advanced renewable integration.
The Role
As Commissioning Manager, you will take ownership of the full lifecycle of BESS projects, from installation to final handover. You will be responsible for managing site teams, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and providing hands-on leadership during commissioning phases. You will also support the handover to Operations & Maintenance teams and contribute to site safety and quality improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Execution: Lead site-based installation and commissioning activities for BESS projects, ensuring delivery to safety, quality, and programme expectations. Coordinate technical teams and interface with project stakeholders to achieve on-time handover to clients. Provide commissioning supervision, including decommissioning where required. Act as the Principal Designer Advisor, ensuring alignment with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Compliance & Handover: Implement project-specific safety case, design, and commissioning strategies. Ensure all handover materials, including technical drawings, training, and documentation, are accurate and complete. Promote adherence to Environmental, Health & Safety, Security, and Quality standards across all project stages.
- Continuous Improvement & Collaboration: Engage with construction, engineering, and commercial teams to improve installation methodologies and delivery performance. Support improvement initiatives related to safety, quality, and site efficiency. Serve as a key contributor to cross-functional planning and risk mitigation.
Key Requirements
- Education & Qualifications: Degree in Engineering or a relevant technical discipline (essential).
- Experience: Demonstrated experience in renewable energy, construction, or infrastructure sectors (essential). Strong understanding of UK health & safety and environmental legislation (essential). Experience managing technical or EPC contractors on complex sites (desirable).
- Skills & Attributes: Capable of managing installation and commissioning activities across multiple workstreams. Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills. Ability to work across international teams and coordinate with clients, contractors, and regulators. Willingness to travel in line with project demands, including international sites.
