Recruiting on behalf of a leading insurance group £150k plus 30% bonus

DATAHEAD is partnering with a dynamic insurance group to find their first dedicated Outwards Reinsurance Manager. This is a newly created role, offering a rare chance to consolidate outwards reinsurance activities currently spread across different teams into a single, central function. You’ll set up and oversee the frameworks, controls and governance needed to protect the business, while also taking a hands-on approach to technical placement and analysis.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Establish and own all outwards reinsurance activities across the group, centralising processes under your leadership.
  • Oversee key partnerships and outsourced providers, ensuring their activities are tightly managed and deliver on agreed SLAs and regulatory expectations.
  • Develop and embed controls, reporting frameworks, and governance processes, maintaining robust oversight of all reinsurance operations.
  • Manage both treaty and facultative placements across multiple lines of business, aligned to the group’s risk appetite.
  • Collaborate with underwriting, actuarial, finance and claims teams to prepare exposure data, loss history summaries, and support renewal processes.
  • Prepare clear, insightful management reports and presentations for senior leadership and board committees.
  • Proactively monitor reinsurance credit risk and coordinate with finance on collateral and payment structures.

What We’re Looking For

  • 5-8+ years’ experience in outwards reinsurance, gained within an insurer, reinsurer or broker.
  • Deep technical understanding of treaty and facultative reinsurance, ideally across multiple business lines.
  • A proven track record of setting up or enhancing oversight frameworks, controls and governance structures.
  • Comfortable operating at both a strategic and hands-on level, getting into the technical detail as needed.
  • Highly analytical, organised and detail-oriented, with the communication skills to influence a range of stakeholders.
  • Professional qualifications such as ACII, CPCU or equivalent are a plus.
