We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Designer to join the Cumbernauld team. The role is full time 37.5 hours a week on a permanent contract, working Monday-Friday onsite office based. The Packaging Designer Role
We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented Designer to join our team. The ideal candidate is passionate about form and function, and can translate brand values into packaging that captivates, communicates, and sells. As the Designer, you are responsible for developing innovative and functional packaging solutions that meet customer requirements. This role involves translating customer requirements into creative and cost-effective corrugated designs while ensuring sustainability and compliance with industry standards in alignment with company goals. The Designer collaborates closely with different departments to deliver prototypes and final designs that exceed client expectations and drive business growth.
Packaging Designer Key Responsibilities
- Design and Development – Create innovative, practical, and effective packaging solutions tailored to meet customer specifications. Ensure that designs maximise functionality and cost effectiveness while meeting production capabilities. Stay up to date on industry trends, materials, and techniques to enhance product innovation.
- Collaboration – Work closely with different departments to understand customer needs and translate them into viable design solutions. Engage with clients to discuss design briefs, clarify requirements and present design concepts. Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate smooth project execution.
- Interpreting Design Briefs – Provide design input and suggestions where applicable, ensuring that the final design meets or exceeds customer expectations.
- Order Management and Coordination – Manage the ordering process for cutting dies, ensure accurate specifications are provided to suppliers and deadlines are met.
- Printing Plate Ordering – Oversee the ordering of printing plates, coordinating with relevant teams to ensure the design and product specification align.
- Documentation and Record Keeping – Maintain accurate records of designs, revisions, and orders, including specifications for cutting dies and printing plates.
What you will bring
- Sound knowledge of packaging design software Kasemake
- Knowledge of packaging standards, industry trends, and sustainable design processes
- Familiarity with corrugated manufacturing processes, including die-cutting, printing and assembly
- Adobe Illustrator and Excel experience (preferred but not essential)
- Design based qualification (preferred but not essential)
- Ability to work both individually and within a team
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong sense of urgency and results orientated
- Willing to embrace change
- Confident decision maker with strong problem-solving abilities
- Ability to ‘think-on-feet’
- Ability to multi-task, prioritise and time manage
