Client/Child: Paul is 36 years old. He lives with his rather amazing mum and is supported by a great team of 5 Personal Assistants plus his loving assistance dog. His sister also lives close by which is fab! Paul has a kind and lovely personality; he lives a very sociable, independent life. Paul sustained a severe brain injury at birth. He can weight bear and walk with assistance, has epilepsy which is controlled and wears an epileptic helmet at all times. He can eat orally with support.

Overview of Role: Although Paul lives at home, he has his own funky, vibrant downstairs environment. This is a 2-1 role so you will always have support in enabling Paul in his day-to-day routine. As well as food, music is a massive part of Paul’s and his family’s life. From folk to punk music, there are gigs to attend and fabulous music festivals in the local area. Paul enjoys being out, going to pubs, seeing friends, and hanging out with his sister. Paul will decide if he wants to go out or stay home; he knows his own mind and will let his PAs know using non-verbal communication what his day will look like. He uses gestures/body language and can stand up to show. There is a comprehensive rota published well in advance for the team. An occasional waking night or sleeping in night stay may be required, but Paul’s mum does most of the night time work.
