IN SCHOOL SUSPENSION CLASSROOM PARAEDUCATOR
BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Principal, supervises students assigned to an in-school suspension classroom for behaviour reasons, provides instruction and assistance regarding assignments as appropriate.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: In addition to the duties and responsibilities of a para-educator, the ISS paraeducator will be required to monitor students assigned to the in-school suspension room, maintain accurate disciplinary records, provide cafeteria prepared lunches to ISS students, obtain class work from regular teacher for ISS students, and work cooperatively with the Administrators.
- Supervise a group of students assigned to an In-School Suspension classroom for behavioural reasons.
- Prepare and maintain various records and reports regarding the In-School Suspension program, including student names, attendance, grade, date, periods sent to classroom, studentβs teacher and offence.
- Distribute assignments to students; provide instruction and assistance as appropriate.
- Monitor completion of work; provide feedback to students; provide instruction and assistance as needed.
- Organize and maintain files of instructional materials for student use as needed.
- Attend meetings and in-service training as required.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Must possess or be willing to acquire the skills necessary to work productively with children.
- Must exhibit good judgment, patience, tact and courtesy.
- Physical condition commensurate with the demands of, at a minimum, the essential functions of the position.
- Utilizes and maintains ethical practices for confidential communication about students.
- Basic subjects taught in district schools, including mathematics, grammar, spelling, language and reading.
- Basic instructional techniques.
- School and classroom rules, procedures and practices.
- Appropriate rules, methods and techniques for maintaining a disciplined environment.
- Methods of organizing and maintaining files of instructional materials.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions effectively.
- Such additions and alternatives to the above qualifications as may be appropriate and acceptable.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must possess a high school diploma.
- Must meet Highly Qualified compliance requirements, as applicable.
- Candidates must possess an Associates Degree or 60 college credits OR successful completion of the Parapro Assessment Examination.
- Must possess or be willing to acquire the skills necessary to support needs associated with English language learners.
- Experience/training in working with children preferred.
Working Conditions: 32.5 hours per week, 6.5 hours per day, 7:30am-2:30pm Monday-Friday
Hourly Rate: $23.00 per hour
