Ecology Team Lead (Principle to Director grade – all levels considered)

  • Independent, multi-disciplinary consultancy firm
  • Hybrid/Home working – regional network of office locations across the Midlands
  • £50,000 – £75,000 plus car allowance and package

As the Ecology Lead you will play a pivotal role in leading the department and servicing a range of client instructions. We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Ecologist who is professionally qualified, possesses great technical skills, and has a track record in leading a team.

We are looking for candidates with technical experience in a range of areas, including protected species surveying (amphibians/bats), licensing and mitigation, Biodiversity Net Gain assessment and advice, Habitat Assessments and Ecological Clerk of Works duties.

Responsibilities:

Team Leadership:

  • Provide direction for the ecology department, ensuring the delivery of high-quality ecological consultancy services.
  • Manage and mentor a small team of ecologists, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.
  • Set objectives, conduct regular performance reviews, and provide ongoing professional development opportunities for team members.

Project Management:

  • Oversee the successful delivery of ecology projects, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, guidelines, and industry best practices.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to the team in designing and implementing ecological surveys, assessments, and mitigation strategies.
  • Monitor project budgets

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Collaborate and maintain effective relationships with clients, regulatory bodies, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and seminars to enhance its visibility and reputation within the ecological consulting sector.
  • Act as a key point of contact for clients, addressing their needs, managing expectations, and fostering long-term partnerships.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • CIEEM (Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management) qualification or similar.
  • Proven experience in a team leadership role within an ecology consultancy or similar.
  • Excellent knowledge of ecological surveys, assessments, mitigation measures, BNG advice and Clerk of Works duties.
  • In-depth understanding of relevant legislation, policies, and guidelines.
