About Myself

I am a 36-year-old young lady living with my family in the Merthyr Tydfil area. I have been diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy and have a learning disability. I am looking for a Personal Assistant to help me out of my home to socialise in the local community and give me more independence. I will also need someone to push my wheelchair for me. I like to go out and about and I have always been a very sociable woman. I enjoy music, films, colouring in, and anything Harry Potter related. I also like going out for meals, swimming, bowling, cinema, to the park, and going into town and shopping. I would love the opportunity to mix with people and access the community and activities of my choice. Most importantly I want to have fun doing the things I enjoy and have support to do those things. I find if I engage in activities, it helps me stay physically and mentally active.

I would like someone friendly and patient as sometimes my communication verbally can be unclear, but I always manage to get my point across. People tell me I have a great sense of humour, and I’m able to use pictures and pointing, facial expression and gesture to support my verbal speech; once you get to know me, you will be able to understand my small vocal speech.

Working Hours/Pay Rate

6 hours per week - £14.50 Per Hour (Paid monthly). Hours need to be flexible to my needs and will be discussed in the interview.

Tasks and Duties

  • I require my personal assistant to take me out of my home environment and look after me in the community, always making sure I’m safe.
  • Support and encourage my independence where possible, and preserve my personal sense of well-being.
  • To give me the supervision and encouragement I need to lead a good life.
  • Also to assist with personal care.

Type of Person Required

  • A person with patience, who understands the complex needs I have.
  • Someone with a positive can-do attitude.
  • A person with a bubbly and easy-going manner who has personality and character.
  • A person who is dependable and arrives on time with a positive commitment to this kind of work.

Training

Training is accessible if required for the job role.
