Vertpaint Studios is seeking an experienced Senior Unreal Lighting Artist to join the team for our upcoming horror title Ritual Tides. This is a unique opportunity to shape the visual tone of a deeply atmospheric game, collaborating with a passionate and skilled remote team.
Role Overview:
You’ll be responsible for crafting visually exceptional, compelling lighting setups in Unreal Engine 5 that heighten mood, tension, and immersion. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of lighting principles, a cinematic eye, and experience working on visually ambitious games.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement high-quality lighting in UE5 for indoor and outdoor environments across multiple UK-inspired biomes.
- Collaborate with art direction to establish and maintain consistent mood and visual storytelling.
- Optimize lighting for performance across platforms without compromising visual quality.
- Work closely with environment and level artists to ensure scenes are compositionally strong.
- Develop and maintain lighting pipelines and best practices for the team.
Must-Have Requirements:
- Demonstrated experience lighting real-time environments in Unreal Engine 5, ideally in a shipped game or high-fidelity demo.
- Understanding of fog, volumetrics, and visual effects integration.
- Deep understanding of UE5’s lighting systems including Lumen, Lightmass, post-process volumes, and exposure.
- Strong grasp of color theory, contrast, and atmosphere in storytelling.
- Ability to work independently and communicate clearly within a remote team structure.
- A strong portfolio showcasing lighting work in games or real-time environments.
Nice-to-Haves (but not required):
- Experience working on horror, narrative-driven, or atmosphere-heavy games.
- Familiarity with environment composition and level art fundamentals.
- Experience with cinematics or sequencer lighting in Unreal.
- Knowledge of photogrammetry pipelines and how lighting interacts with scan-based assets.
Working Hours:
This is a fully remote position, but candidates must be available to collaborate during UK business hours (BST).
