Overview
The Operations Manager reports to the Asst Director of Operations and AGM and manages the day-to-day operations of Chartway Arena. The position provides leadership and direction to operations staff and third-party staff for front and back of house services, arena conversions, custodial services, and equipment inventory control. This role pays an annual salary of $44,000-$50,000. Benefits for Full-Time roles include Health, Dental and Vision Insurance, 401(k) Savings Plan, 401(k) matching, and Paid Time Off (vacation days, sick days, and 11 holidays). This position will remain open until August 8, 2025.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the operation of all event changeovers, including basketball floor, stage builds, chair sets, bike rack, and barricade setup.
- Assist in the overall daily operation and maintenance of the facilities.
- Plan, direct, coordinate, and review the work plan for all event changeovers; meet with staff to identify and resolve problems; assign work activities, projects and programs; monitor workflow; review and evaluate work products, methods and procedures.
- Inspect work areas to ensure standards are met and address any deficiencies.
- Coordinate with event managers and other departments to address specific requirements and resolve any operational issues.
- Ensure all equipment, such as tables, chairs, staging, pipe and drape are set up according to the event plan.
- Inspect completed set-ups to ensure they meet the required standards and client specifications.
- Proactively use all safety mandates and teach others safety protocols.
- Select, train, motivate and evaluate staff; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline and termination procedures.
- Monitor event spaces during events to ensure everything functions correctly and promptly address any issues.
- Oversee the takedown process and ensure all equipment is stored correctly and the venue is returned to its original condition.
- Coordinate labor hours for staff.
- Report labor allocations to Director of Finance.
- Promote a safe and efficient work environment.
- Be available for event support.
- Perform routine to moderate tasks maintaining chairs, staging, risers, bike rack, barricades and other inventory as needed.

- Assist other departments as assigned including Director of Venue Maintenance.
- Work extended and/or irregular hours including nights, weekends and holidays, as needed.
- Perform strenuous physical duties at times, including lifting, carrying, moving, walking extensively throughout the building, working from various heights, and around moderate to loud noises.
- Operate equipment such as hand trucks, pallet jacks, forklifts, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of Associates’ Degree preferred; Bachelor’s Degree is highly preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in facility operations supervision or with comparable increasing responsibility in an arena, convention centre, public assembly facility with knowledge of arena set up.
- Demonstrated knowledge of supervisory skills and principles, with experience in work crew supervision and working on a varied work schedule in facility operations.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in the English language, both orally and in writing.
- Must be comfortable multi-tasking and working in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with OSHA requirements.
- Strong interpersonal skills necessary, including excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Possess valid driver’s license.
- Possess valid forklift certification or ability to obtain certification.
- Ability to work irregular hours for extended periods as dictated by events and schedule; mainly evenings, weeknights, weekends, occasionally holidays.
- Ability to lift/push/pull 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Working knowledge and ability with AutoCAD, Excel, and other Microsoft products.
