ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
At Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (RLL), performance begins with precision, and precision begins in the damper room. We are actively looking for an experienced and technically proficient Damper Technician to join our engineering team and enhance the competitive edge of our IndyCar program.
In this full-time position, you will prepare, test, and support high-performance dampers and springs according to team specifications. You will collaborate closely with engineers and contribute directly to results on the track. This is an immediate opening for a hands-on professional who excels in detail-oriented, high-stakes environments.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Travel to approximately 25 IndyCar events per season
- Build, prepare, and test dampers and springs according to engineering specifications
- Support component setup changes, test data capture, and performance adjustments
- Operate Roehrig/CTW damper dynamometers and produce analysis reports
- Track component mileage, lifting records, and maintain inventory accuracy
- Generate parts orders and manage damper spare component inventory
- Perform precision inspections and non-destructive testing (e.g., Zyglo, Mag)
- Maintain workshop cleanliness and safety standards
- Participate in pit stop programs and ongoing process improvement initiatives
IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE
- 5+ years in professional motorsports, with direct experience building and servicing dampers
- Hands-on familiarity with Ohlins, Penske, or Multimatic damper systems
- Strong understanding of hydraulic circuits and damper force behavior
- Skilled in component inspection using dial calipers, micrometers, depth gauges
- Experience operating damper dynos (Roehrig/CTW) and interpreting force data
- Competency with machine shop equipment and safety protocols
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Pi Toolbox software
- Organized, dependable, and solution-oriented
- High school diploma required; technical training or certification preferred
