An outstanding practitioner is sought to become the new Functional Skills Teacher for Captiva Learning from September this year. The Role:

  • Teaching individual and group lessons
  • Teaching Maths and English (Maths specialists particularly welcome to apply)
  • Working with mature candidates including senior leaders to design a tailored Functional Skills learning plan to suit their individual needs
  • Carrying out skills assessments
  • Preparing innovative teaching materials
  • Using teaching resources, worksheets, and IT to enhance learning
  • Carrying out marking, administrative tasks, and keeping accurate records

The Person:

The successful Functional Skills Teacher will work with a diverse range of adults seeking to improve their reading, writing, numeracy, and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) skills. Many learners may be in senior management positions completing their Functional Skills exams alongside leadership and management qualifications. The right candidate needs to be calm and supportive, as you will often teach adults who may have low confidence or be nervous about returning to learning. Patience, good rapport with people of all ages and backgrounds, and understanding their needs and learning goals are essential.

Qualifications:

Level 5 Diploma in Teaching with a specialist pathway in English (Literacy), English (ESOL), or Mathematics (Numeracy) in the Lifelong Learning Sector, PGCE, or PGDE.
