As manager, you’ll have the shop running like clockwork, building a team of volunteers, achieving sales targets and delivering excellent customer service. You’ll be an experienced retailer, passionate about establishing great customer relationships and running an efficient and profitable shop. You’re also skilled at leading, motivating and inspiring a team and driving sales.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Role Summary
This role supports our vision by leading, motivating and inspiring a team consisting of staff and volunteers to maximise the profit from the shop which will directly support the work of the hospice, this will be delivered by delivering and exceeding agreed KPI performance targets. You’ll deliver first class customer service across all areas of the shop operation while ensuring that all of the hospice, retail policies and procedures are complied with and the appropriate standards of security, health and safety and basic store standards are in place at all times.
Main Duties and Key Responsibilities
- Income & budgets: Achieve and wherever possible exceed sales budgets for the shop and proactively address any shortfall in sales with support from the area manager. Manage the gift aid process effectively and efficiently.
- Customer service/ public relations: Proactively drive excellent customer service in the shop. Proactively promote Forget Me Not's campaigns and core messages. Act as an ambassador for Forget Me Not in the local community.
- Merchandising, premises & H&S: Create eye-catching window displays and internal merchandising. Achieve and maintain a high standard of housekeeping and cleanliness throughout the shop. Ensure that all statutory responsibilities are met, including fire and health & safety regulations.
- Stock: Ensure the shop has sufficient high quality donated stock. Monitor and rotate stock so that no items remain on the shop floor longer than agreed time limits. Adhere to stock management procedures.
- Team and cost management responsibilities: Lead by example and adhere to all hospice and retail policies and procedures. Ensure the shop is sufficiently staffed at all times. Attract and retain new volunteers to the shop.
- Administration: Ensure that all Forget Me Not's administrative and financial procedures are followed. Complete mandatory training when requested.
- Security: Ensure staff are security conscious and are following the correct procedures. Be the key point of contact on security, and inform the relevant bodies where there has been a breach or a suspicion of a breach of any security procedures.
We expect all staff to undertake any other duties within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job, the title of the post and its grading, as requested by your line manager or their higher level of authority on behalf of the charity.

- Essential: Experience of working in a retail management role, Experience of people management, Strong team player, Able to demonstrate strong communication and organisational skills, IT Literate, excellent skills using Microsoft packages, Excellent standards of record keeping, both written and computerised.
- Desirable: Charity retail experience would be highly desirable, Experience of working with KPI's and driving performance, Experience of leading a large and diverse team.
This role will involve weekend work so flexibility is essential. This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
