The Wellcome Trust is a global charitable foundation. We improve health for everyone by funding science, leading policy and advocacy campaigns, and building partnerships. We plan to spend £16bn over the next ten years, funding new discoveries in life, health, and wellbeing, and taking on three global health challenges: mental health, infectious disease and climate and health. These challenges need the bold science we support, but they won't be solved by science alone.

We are looking for an Engagement and Participation Producer to join our team on a temporary basis as maternity cover with experience in developing and delivering thoughtful and accessible engagement programmes for audiences and communities.

You will be working in the Live Engagement and Participation team which sits within the Curatorial and Public Practice department. The role reports to the Engagement and Participation Lead. Through events, gatherings, workshops and learning activities, the Live Engagement and Participation team develops and delivers live programming and participatory engagement for Wellcome Collection's audiences.

The Engagement and Participation team includes the Engagement Participation Lead, two Youth Producers and an Engagement and Participation Producer. They work with teams across Wellcome including Visitor Engagement and Experience, Library Experience and Engagement and the Collections and Digital Teams to ensure that our programming is meaningful, mission-focused and accessible.

This role will work alongside other Producers as part of a close-knit team developing and delivering activities and events to engage audiences in conversations and ideas about health and human experience.

Our Engagement and Participation Producer will research, develop and deliver an inclusive engagement programme of talks, workshops and screenings that centre our collections and help drive the curatorial narrative of a new collection's gallery opening in 2028. You will work closely with the Live Engagement Participation team and colleagues across the Wellcome to develop creative and accessible opportunities and approaches for audience engagement.

As an Engagement and Participation Producer you will:

  • Research, develop and deliver a programme including talks, screenings and activities that build opportunities for audiences to engage and access stories from our collections in the lead up to a new collections' gallery opening in 2028.
  • Work with a range of collaborators, including (but not limited to) artists, activists, community organisations, experts by experience, researchers and writers.
  • Research, develop, and manage relationships and partnerships with internal and external collaborators and oversee the smooth running of programme activities.
  • Budget for and manage the work of freelance event facilitators/consultants where appropriate and procure other necessary resources for activities.
  • Collaborate equitably with people able to represent the views of our priority audiences (including, racially minoritised people; deaf, disabled and neurodivergent people).
  • Ensure that evaluation and reflection is planned into projects in accordance with team and departmental practice.

We're looking for a Producer with significant experience in researching, developing and delivering engagement opportunities for audiences within a cultural or heritage setting. We are open to hearing from candidates from different sectors with transferable experience in producing complex creative activities for a diverse range of audiences. You should be comfortable budgeting, briefing, and managing the work of freelance artists, event facilitators, consultants, and other contractors. You will have proven experience of building relationships with a wide range of colleagues at all levels of an organisation, pitching and presenting ideas appropriately and independently. One of the major priorities of your work will be audience experience and the translation of complex themes through the delivery of public-facing events. To gain insight into the experiences of our audiences, you will ensure that evaluation and reflection is planned for and embedded into the programme.

To apply for this role, please submit an updated CV and answer 2 application questions to demonstrate that you meet the minimum requirements for the role.

Minimum Criteria:

  • Experience of a range of approaches for engaging audiences within a library, archive or museum setting.
  • Experience of collaborating equitably with people able to represent the views of our priority audiences (racially minoritised people; deaf, disabled and neurodivergent people).
  • Experience of working with a range of collaborators, including (but not limited to) artists, activists, community organisations, experts by experience, researchers and writers.
  • Experience of managing projects, budgets and of planning, implementing, and reviewing development.
