Your future role:
- You will take responsibility for the successful and safe delivery of contractual commitments and to the achievement of the business plan.
- Provide 24/7 cover across the production function within the depot.
- Ensure that production targets, quality standards and safety requirements are achieved through the execution of the production plan and through the efficient management of resources.
- Ensure that trains are delivered on time in a safe, clean and fully functional condition to our customers.
- As a key leader at Wimbledon Depot, ensure our operations run safely, efficiently, and in line with the highest standards.
Your day-to-day will be dynamic, varied, and vital to the success of our team. We’ll look to you to:
- Lead safe operations by ensuring all safety-critical arrangements are in place for staff, vehicles, pedestrians, and contractors in compliance with our Depot Operations Plan.
- Drive safety culture through prompt fault and incident reporting, including near misses, accidents, and quality concerns at both Wimbledon Depot and Outstations.
- Oversee production excellence by ensuring all maintenance services align with established procedures, manuals, and standards.
- Monitor performance via regular quality audits and by verifying accurate data entry into our Maintenance Management System (MMS).
- Optimise efficiency by managing depot resources, controlling overtime, and executing the Depot Daily Plan while keeping operating costs in check.
- Champion continuous improvement through the promotion of 5S, Lean maintenance methodologies, and Kaizen workshops.
- Lead high-performing teams across Production, Workshop, and Wheel Lathe areas—setting clear accountabilities, managing shift handovers, and enabling organisational change.
- Maintain safety and compliance with internal and statutory standards including the Health & Safety at Work Act, Railway Group Standards, and company policies.
- Support growth and development by coaching staff, identifying training needs, encouraging professional development, and fostering a culture of excellence.
- Plan proactively, from staffing and leave scheduling to ensuring productivity targets are met efficiently and effectively.
- Build strong relationships with Technicians, Engineers, and stakeholders to keep communication flowing and operations seamless.
- Own IT and quality systems, ensuring all relevant updates and procedures are followed, and job times are controlled and accurate.

- HNC/HND in engineering or recognised equivalent.
- First experience in team management preferably within the maintenance environment.
- Experience of electronics, pneumatics and mechanics.
- Experience working within a Rolling Stock Maintenance environment preferable.
- History of work in a process/production environment.
- Working knowledge of Quality and Health & Safety standards and systems preferable.
- IT literate with knowledge of Office & Tablet applications.
- Knowledge of Rail industry IT systems, SAP.
- Understanding of Urban Trains business and its Customer requirements.
- Knowledge and understanding of TFL / Network Rail Rules and Regulations.
