A new opportunity to join our team as a Senior Technical Assistant. This role is multidisciplinary, involving the processing and correct disposal of laboratory waste on site according to local guidelines. Additionally, the role will assist in providing media services to meet the institute's needs, primarily for prokaryotic media, but also other media and buffers. The role also includes assisting in the processing and sterilization of laboratory glassware.
You will be responsible for:
- Conducting routine procedures with standard protocols to ensure the collection and processing of biological and chemical waste, along with providing media/reagent services to the campus.
- Working with the Senior Technical Assistant (Media) to assist in producing sterile media for the institute.
- Planning and organizing your daily activities in conjunction with the Principal Technician to ensure team service levels are met.
- Arranging and assisting in the ad hoc collection of waste laboratory chemicals according to service levels.
- Maintaining waste records to meet regulatory requirements in line with local procedures.
- Supervising and training technical assistants in routine procedures as needed.
- Supporting the Principal Technician to ensure all team services (media, liquid nitrogen delivery, etc.) are maintained at acceptable levels, providing cover when necessary.
- Working within a team to ensure consistent service levels across all core support services, with the ability to work independently.
- Operating glasswashers, autoclaves, and other equipment according to local procedures, and performing basic maintenance tasks.
- Maintaining good knowledge of waste and other regulations to carry out duties safely.

About Us:
The Technical Science Support Team provides practical support for research and administrative teams across the Wellcome Genome Campus. Our small team covers duties such as laboratory waste collection and sterilization, media and consumables preparation, laundering laboratory coats, and maintaining cryogenic storage vessels.
